![]() This Troper went to high school with a girl whose father was American and her mother was English ( Military Brat). Some people lose accents quickly, but others don't. Her dad left them over a decade ago, and she's been back in America for several years, and she still speaks with an English accent. She spoke with an English accent growing up. I know a friend who grew up in England with a British father and American mother.By the time high school rolled around, he and his little brother sounded as American as everyone else in school. Even if the McManus brothers had an Irish mother, why do they still have Irish accents? Example: one of my friends from elementary school was from Scotland, both parents with thick accents.Troy Duffy probably didn't have enough money to afford an armorer. From a Doylist standpoint, there's also budget constraints to take into consideration - no one wields automatic weapons in the first film aside from the guards in the prison scene with Il Duce, who probably had them on hand from their proper line of work.Could be the brothers suffer from a borderline case of Crippling Overspecialization, because excluding Il Duce's short-barreled shotgun in the climax of #1, we never see a Saint fire anything but a pistol. They could have been taken by surprise the first time, but the second time, they should have learned to grab a few automatics, if just out of caution. Both times, they only walk out with suppressed pistols, and in both instances they run into situations that needed more firepower. The saints have, in both movies, a "as much as fits in the bag" shopping spree in a military-style armory. They were right and this is an amazingly candid peak into the world of show business. They answer that about midway through their experience that they decided the only thing salvageable from this destructive situation would be this documentary. Filmmakers Tony Montana and Mark Brian Smith are interviewed on the disc and asked why no one ever took Duffy aside and told him he was ruining his big break. ![]() ![]() As the film progresses, the viewer is basically treated to a visual display of career suicide. How anyone listened to him after a series of self induced setbacks is even stranger. How a guy who has absolutely nothing to show for it can ramble on and on about how he is the impetus for all things positive happening and not to blame for anything negative is beyond me. Some of the scenes in this movie are so cringe inducing (like nearly every frame Duffy is in). They thought they were making a documentary about a unheard of rise to fame but instead chronicled the deranged dealings of an egomaniac unleashed. Duffy was a member of a creative group who called themselves The Syndicate and two of the members were lucky (and smart) enough to document this period. ![]() ![]() Overnight follows Hollywood urban legend Troy Duffy, a guy who went from bartender to the "next big thing" in the late 90s literally overnight with a prospective deal with Miramax for his cult script The Boondock Saints. "There's More Than One Way To Shoot Yourself"Ī documentary on the rise and stumble of Troy Duffy, the bartender-cum-filmmaker who was swept up by Miramax's Harvey Weinstein to turn his script for The Boondock Saints into a feature film. ![]()
